What is SetsOfLove? A profile app for single gym-goers

SetsOfLove is a gym dating profile app for single gym-goers aged 18 or over. You build a profile with 1 to 4 photos and a few plain details, and it lives at its own link. Dates are only one thing members can say they're after, and there's no messaging inside the app.

What does SetsOfLove do?

It gives you one page about you, at a link you control. A link looks like setsoflove.com/sam-t. You can send it to a friend, a training partner or anyone else you choose.

That's most of it. There's no feed to scroll and no inbox to check. The profile is the whole product, so it's worth making it a good one.

It's for gym-goers at any gym, of any gender: man, woman or non-binary. Gym membership isn't checked, so SetsOfLove takes your word for it.

What goes on a profile?

Every profile uses the same fields, which makes them easy to read side by side:

  • First name and age
  • Gender, who you'd like to meet and what you're after
  • Suburb, city and country
  • What you do and how you train
  • About you, and a few words on who you'd like to meet

You choose who you'd like to meet from any mix of men, women and non-binary people. You choose what you're after from any mix of dates, a relationship, marriage, friendship and just fun. Someone can pick friendship and dates together, or friendship only. It's your call, and the profile shows your answers exactly as you chose them.

Tappable quick picks suggest text for most fields, which helps when the page is blank. You can edit anything they add. Phone numbers and social handles aren't allowed in public text fields, so contact details stay out of the profile.

How do photos and lifts work?

You can add 1 to 4 photos. The main photo shows your face clearly. Gym and workout photos are encouraged, and mirror selfies are welcome, which is also the tagline.

A few things stay out: nudity, anything sexual, photos of other people without their consent, screenshots, memes, and images with text or logos. The full rundown is in photo rules: what's welcome and what isn't.

Lifts are optional. If you want them, you can enter your bench press, squat, deadlift and overhead press in kg or lb. SetsOfLove shows each in both units, so 100 kg appears as 100 kg (220 lb). Lifts are self-reported, which means nobody checks them. Whether to include them is a personal call, and should you put your lifts on your profile walks through it.

How does approval work?

Every profile is approved by the admin before it goes live. The steps are short:

  1. Create an account at setsoflove.com/signup.
  2. Fill in your fields and add your photos.
  3. Choose your link name, using lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, 3 to 30 characters long.
  4. Send the profile for approval.

If something needs to change, a rejection or takedown comes with a note on what to fix. Any edit to a live profile takes it offline until it's approved again. So if you're changing a photo and a line of text, do both in one go.

What SetsOfLove doesn't do

It's fair to say plainly what's missing.

  • There are no messages, comments or likes.
  • There's no algorithm choosing people for you.
  • There are no ads, and it's free.
  • Gym membership and lifts aren't verified.

Introductions happen through friends or at the gym. You decide where your link goes, whether that's a group chat, a training partner or nowhere at all. The trade-off is that it's slower than an inbox full of notifications. For some people, that's the point. The post why SetsOfLove has no messages, comments or algorithm sets out the thinking and the downsides.

Every public profile has a "Report this profile" link, and search engines are told not to list profiles. That's useful, but it isn't a safety guarantee. Treat anyone you meet through a profile the way you'd treat anyone new, and see online dating safety tips for Australians before a first meeting.

Who is it for?

It suits you if you train, you're single and you'd like a simple, honest page instead of a stream of chat. It also suits you if you'd rather be introduced than approached, or if you want friendship and a date to both be fair answers.

It also works for the person in a training group who likes introducing people. A link is easy to pass along, and the person receiving it can read it in a minute and do nothing at all. If that's you, how to share your profile link without it being awkward has some wording that keeps the pressure low.

SetsOfLove won't promise you anything. It's a clear page about you, checked before it goes up, shared with the people you pick. What happens next is up to you and whoever reads it.
